Dr Shevaun Gallwey

Qualifications: MVB MRCVS
Joined HHVC: October 2001

I wanted to be a vet for as long as I can remember, and was delighted when I was accepted to study at University College, Dublin, Ireland. I graduated in 1994, and initially worked in a mixed practice, caring for many different animals. In 1997 I came to Hong Kong and in 1998 started to work at Peace Avenue Veterinary Clinic.

I travelled to Thailand in 2001 and opened PhaNgan Animal Care (PAC – a non-profit animal nursing clinic) in September 2001, the first veterinary care on Ko Pha Ngan Island. In October 2001 I joined Hung Hom Veterinary Clinic (HHVC). I now share my time between HHVC and PAC as voluntary CEO.

I thoroughly enjoy my clinical work at HHVC and have a strong desire to continue studying so I can help animals have a long and happy life. I value the relationships I have built with my patients and their Owners over the years. My favourite field is Internal Medicine, but I also enjoy all types of surgery. Working with rabbits and chinchilla is also very rewarding.

I strongly believe in preventative medicine, and am proud that HHVC has such a high proportion of caring Owners. I provide the highest standard of care that I can, as this is what gives me satisfaction in my work. This would not be possible without HHVC’s excellent team of dedicated support staff!

In the future, I hope to undertake the study of acupuncture and Traditional Chinese Medicine. I have also become involved in Asian animal welfare efforts. I place the welfare of an animal above all else.

In my spare time, I really enjoy playing Ultimate Frisbee, hiking (especially with dogs) and picnics in the jungle. I am (slowly!) learning Qi Gong, and I really love to dance.
