Can Cats Get Painful Teeth?

Have you heard of Feline Tooth Resorptive Lesions?

Cats can suffer from a painful dental condition called Tooth Resorption (TR), where their teeth gradually deteriorate due to abnormal cellular activity. This common condition often goes unnoticed until severe pain or infection develops.

Warning Signs to Watch For:

  • Dropping food while eating or chewing on only one side

  • Excessive drooling or frequent pawing at the mouth

  • Red, swollen gums or visible tooth defects

Treatment Protocol: (See image)

Tooth extraction is typically required to relieve pain:

Before extraction X-ray - Shows severe root resorption (damage)

After extraction X-ray - Clean socket site

Gum sutures - Precise closure for optimal healing

When was your cat's last dental check-up?

If you notice any of these symptoms in your cat, seek veterinary care immediately! Early diagnosis and treatment (usually extraction) can alleviate pain and prevent complications.
