Your Pet just had Surgery? A Guide to Post-Operative Preparation

When picking up your pet after surgery, you may notice the following completely normal reactions:

Lethargy and Drowsiness: The effects of anaesthesia haven’t fully worn off yet. Please let them rest fully in a quiet environment.

• Temporary Loss of Appetite: They might show little interest in food on the day of surgery. You can offer a small amount of their regular diet.

These conditions usually improve significantly by the next day!

Home Care Tips

1. Wound Care

o There may be a sutured wound. Check daily to ensure the wound remains dry and clean, with no redness, swelling, bleeding, or abnormal discharge. Always use a head collar to prevent licking and avoid infection risks until the stitches are removed.

2. Medication Administration

o Please follow the instructions and complete any course of treatment.

3. Activity Restriction

o During recovery, restrict intense activities such as running, jumping, or rough play.

If you notice your pet consistently refusing food, unusual changes in the wound, or have any concerns about their recovery, please call our veterinary team immediately.
