How to give medication to my pets?

✅ 4 Common Methods

Method 1: Hand Feeding (pills/capsules)

  1. Open the mouth and place the pill at the back of the throat

  2. Close the mouth and gently stroke the throat to encourage swallowing

Method 2: Liquid Medication (using a syringe)

  1. Insert the syringe into the gap behind the canine teeth

  2. Slowly push the liquid toward the back of the throat until swallowed (do not push too much at once)

Method 3: Using a Pill Popper (for pets that will bite or are difficult to open their mouths)

  1. Place the pill into the pill popper

  2. Insert into the back of the throat and release the pill quickly

  3. Close the mouth and encourage swallowing

Method 4: Hiding in Food (for non-picky pets or those without vomiting/diarrhea issues)

  1. Hide the pill in a favourite food (bread, pill pockets, meat paste)

  2. Make sure the entire pill is eaten

❌ What NOT to Do

  • Do NOT force the mouth open aggressively (may injure or get bitten)

  • Do NOT hide pills in their main meal (easily detected and may cause them to dislike their food)

  • If your pet already has vomiting or diarrhoea, do NOT hide pills in treats
